Renewable Natural Gas
Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) is a fuel produced by capturing and cleaning up methane emitted from the decomposition of organic waste, such as in wastewater treatment plants, dairy manure and landfills. It is also produced from the sustainable management of agricultural and forest waste. Trillium provides fleet operators from coast to coast with RNG—a cost effective, pipeline quality, ultra-low carbon fuel for all medium- and heavy-duty applications including goods movement, transit and refuse.
Our team currently dispenses natural gas fuel at more than 200 facilities in 26 states, including more than 65 public-access stations.
KEY BENEFITS OF RNG
Natural gas vehicles fueled with RNG help fleets save money, reduce maintenance costs and improve environmental performance. There are currently more than 150,000 natural gas vehicles on U.S. roads, operating across every fleet sector—including freight trucks, transit buses, shuttles, refuse trucks, vans and more.
30% to 50% Average Fuel Cost Savings Compared to Diesel The historical price spread between natural gas and diesel has created opportunities for fleets to significantly reduce operating costs over the life of the vehicle. Additionally, RNG isn’t subject to the fuel price volatility that imported petroleum products experience.

Additional Financial Incentives Available RNG can generate additional revenue for fleet operators through Renewable Identification Number (RIN) and Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) credits, which are the “currency” of the Federal Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) and California’s LCFS programs, respectively. |
Up to 283% GHG Reduction (Depending on Feedstock) RNG is created when fugitive methane from organic sources—e.g., agriculture waste, wastewater treatment plants, food and green waste in landfills—is captured and cleaned up. |
Fosters Local Economic Development Communities often see the creation of local clean energy jobs to design, construct and operate RNG facilities. Once operational, these facilities can help generate new tax revenue to improve schools and neighborhoods. |
Ability to Responsibly Utilize Waste Streams

Locally Produced U.S. Energy RNG is being produced throughout North America, and already accounts for most of the natural gas used for transportation in California |
